In 1981, Robert Meckley founded York Tree Service to provide tree and shrub pruning and removal services to the greater York area. Big changes came in 1984 when York Tree Service incorporated and began utility line clearance work for PPL and Met-Ed. Bruce Stryker joined the York Tree Services team in August 1984 as a groundsperson and has since worked his way to vice-president. In the early 1990s, York Tree Services expanded its arboricultural services into tree and shrub plant health care (PHC) services, such as insect control, disease management, fertilization and biostimulants. The company continued to develop into a reputable tree care company serving hundreds of clients in the greater York area and northern Maryland. From its inception to present day, York Tree Services prioritizes the highest levels of professionalism, safety and training. York Tree Services became the first company in York County, the eighth in Pennsylvania, and the 97th in the nation to attain the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) Accreditation, a third-party credentialing process, in November 2007. TCIA Accredited Companies adhere to the highest standard of professionalism based on:

- Maintenance of trained, professional staff
- Dedication to ethics and quality in business practices
In November 2013, York Tree Services became the first company in Pennsylvania and the second in the nation to attain the TCIA’s Utility Contractor Accreditation.
In 2010, Bob and Bruce acquired a small plant health care company, Shades of Green, and consolidated the new turf care services with the tree and shrub plant health care services previously offered by York Tree Services. Our customers can now go to Shades of Green Plant Health Care for custom-designed plant health care services and maintenance tips for the entire landscape.
When local company, Shiloh Nurseries, Inc. closed in 2011, a former head-designer from Shiloh Nurseries, Greg Kern, joined Bob Meckley and Bruce Stryker in acquiring the intellectual assets. The trio created Shiloh Landscape & Design, and birthed the York Tree Family of companies. Shiloh Landscape & Design offers the high-quality, full-service landscape design, installation, maintenance and architectural services that customers had come to expect from the Shiloh name. Our design staff includes Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturists (PCHs) who considers your desires for your ideal landscape and employs skilled employees to bring your dreams to life.
